The latest from Switch2

Ian Allan speaking at Winckworth Sherwood

Seminar offers post-election update on heat network regulations

A free breakfast seminar will serve up a post-election update on the latest regulations affecting community and district heating projects. The event will take place in central London on Thursday 14 September 2017.

Simon Trevenna, UK Implementation Manager (Heat) at the government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), will outline the latest changes to the Heat Network (Metering & Billing) Regulations 2014. He will update delegates on the status of the delayed ‘feasibility tool’, which indicates the viability of retrofitting meters to existing district heating schemes.

The seminar, which is being hosted by heat network specialist Switch2 Energy and lawyers Winckworth Sherwood, is open to district and community heating operators. It will be particularly relevant to heat scheme owners from housing associations, local authorities and the private housing development market.

Colin Hall, Partner at Winckworth Sherwood, will advise delegates on the steps they must take to comply with the Heat Network Regulations, including the three stipulations of notification, metering and billing.

Ian Allan, Head of R&D at Switch2 Energy, will explain how to develop compliant metering and billing strategies and share real-life examples of how heat suppliers and customers are benefitting from smart metering and billing technologies and practices.

The panel of experts will host a question and answer session to resolve delegates specific queries.

It is very important that heat scheme owners attend this seminar to understand their legal obligations,” said Ian Allan. “With relatively few exemptions and criminal/civil penalties for non-compliance enforced robustly by BEIS, it’s crucial that those responsible for heat networks are well informed.”
