Switch2 unlocked: Open API

Unlock the potential of your PAYG systems with Switch2 open protocol.

What does this mean?

If you are installing Switch2 meters and PAYG systems you have an option to operate them yourselves or ask another metering and billing company to operate them for you. In the Heat Network metering industry this has become known as “Open Protocol” but at Switch2 we call it Third Party Access (TPA).

What do I need to know?

Switch2 provides an application program interface (API) that allows 3rd parties to operate the G6 or Incontro PAYG systems. Just like other providers of similar equipment, Switch2 will still be involved but will only provide the API and look after the communications and networking between the API and the meters. You are free to make your own arrangements for billing and payment collection along with installation and maintenance of the metering system.

What does third party access mean?

It permits third parties such as clients or their preferred service providers access to operate Switch2 systems and services via an APIs or Web Browser Interfaces.

What does open protocol mean?

open protocol means a product can be freely used without the need for any recourse to the creator of the protocol. All the heat metering PAYG solution on the market today, including Switch2's, require a contract and subscription to services from the PAYG operator, hence they are not "Open Protocol". This is why Switch2 believe third party access is a more appropriate term.

At Switch2 we make a success of heat networks by always putting the customer first.
