How advanced smart metering for heat networks is achieving outstanding customer service
Ian Allan, Head of Research and Development for community heating specialist Switch2 Energy, will discuss the contribution of advanced smart metering to community and district heating projects in a presentation to the All-Energy Conference in Glasgow on Thursday 3 May (15.00 to 16.30).
All-Energy is the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference, including more than 400 conference speakers and 300+ exhibiting companies.
Ian will join expert panellists from the heat and energy sectors on the Hall1 platform for the Low Carbon Heat workshop.
He will explain how smart metering can deliver exceptional levels of customer service across heat networks, while helping heat scheme owners and operators to reduce debt risk and comply with the latest regulations.
His presentation will include a case study of how smart pay-as-you-go metering makes community heat management and payment as easy, transparent and flexible as using an Oyster card. Energetik, Enfield Council’s local energy company, is using Switch2’s advanced smart pay-as-you-go meter to simplify payments for residents and pay for the heat they use in real time, see how much energy they consume for better budgeting, and control their energy system.
Switch2’s smart meters are used by more than 28,000 heat network customers, including Newport City Homes’ (NCH) Duffryn district heating scheme. This has resulted in residents halving their energy consumption. Residents of Sheffield City Council’s city-wide district heating scheme have saved an average 38% on their heating bills.
The advancement of smart metering technology is helping solve the urgent requirement to design heat networks around the needs of residents and to match and exceed the customer service standards of mainstream utilities. The introduction of the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations is also a key driver for better smart metering solutions in the heat network sector.
As a pioneer of smart metering and energy prepayment systems for the community and district heating sector for more than 30 years, Switch2 Energy remains at the forefront of innovation. The company has developed next generation smart metering and billing technologies, which are reducing costs for residents and offering them greater control and transparency.
Switch2 Energy will be exhibiting at All-Energy on Stand D41. Attendees will be able to find out more about the company’s smart metering and pay-as-you-go billing technologies, as well as its wider end-to-end service to the district and community heating sector. This includes equipment supply, through to maintenance, energy centre management and award winning customer services.
