Switch2 Energy conquer Yorkshire’s three peaks to raise money for cancer charity

A team from Saltaire’s Switch2 Energy has raised more than £4,000 for Yorkshire childhood cancer charity Candlelighters by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

In driving rain, the twelve-strong team walked the 24 mile route – climbing a total of  5,200 feet to the summit of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough mountains in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

“Candlelighters has provided wonderful help to my own family and many others affected by childhood cancer”, said Switch2’s challenge organiser Rebecca Stenson. “My colleagues were eager to support such a fantastic local cause, and this kept us going to the finish line, despite being battered by torrential rain for the entire walk.”

The group completed the challenge within the 12-hour time limit, with the pace setters finishing in under 11 hours.

Rebecca Stenson added: “We’d like to thank friends, family, colleagues, customers and suppliers for their generous sponsorship in helping us to raise a grand total of £4000.  We also arranged cake sales and raised funds at our annual open day to contribute towards the grand total.”

Switch2  was established in Bradford more than 30 years ago. The company specialises in community and district heating and is headquartered at The Waterfront, next to Salts Mill in Saltaire.
